can anyone help me n tell me if u can gat crisis when u use a plane one doctor was telling me that u cant use a plane when u r a sickler how true is this and what should i really do when i have to use a plane
Hey Schola, I have flown several times and I have not had a problem. I do however always take a carry on with my meds in it just in case. I love flying, the farthest I've flown was to Vegas and that was about 5 to 6 hrs. Get on a plane gurl!!
Much Luv
Trish

I'm surprised your doctor said you "can't use a plane", that is not accurate one bit. The mixture of the aircraft's pressurized air and high altitude leads to a decrease in oxygen. I have never had a crisis in a plane and have traveled many times. My advise to you is... dress in warm clothes or layers because the plane can be cold at times, drink plenty of fluids (you may want to buy you own water before boarding so you will have enough), and if the flight is long take a moment to get up and walk to discourage clotting.
Have a safe trip!
My son has traveled numerous times by plane and we have never had a problem; the only thing our doctor recommends is to make sure you hydrate before, during and at least 24-48 hours after the flight.
Enjoy your trip if you are going and if you did go, I hope you had a fabulous time.
I fly at least once a year and I have not had any problems. My doctor said that it is safe because large commercial airplanes have pressurized cabins. I only had to have oxygen for the entire flight when I was a teenager and now I am 42 years old.
I am supposed to go on vacation with my daughter.Nigeria to Seattle.Flying with her has been my major fear.I'm not sure what to expect. Her doctor says its okay as commercial planes are pressurized and safe for SCD patients.I'm still not sure
