I just joined this website not to long ago. I'm so happy I found out it to be able to connect with others with Sickle Cell disease is great. Especially since I'm the only one in my family with the disease, so I really don't have anybody to talk to about this.

The name is Nana I'm 22 soon to be 23 in another month. I live in Atlanta, Ga currently although I am originally from New Orleans. I am a student, I go to school full time and work part time as a hostess in a restaurant. I go to school for Television Production and being in Atlanta would love to work for Turner.

I have Sickle Cell SS, I was diagnosed at birth. My health is kind of interesting, as a child I was always sick, always in the hospital, then from like 14-20 I never was sick due to sickle cell, of course I got the common cold, the flu but I had only 1 sickle cell crisis during that time. Now it seems as if now I'm always in pain, I go to the sickle cell crisis center like once every 3 months. Things I did when I was younger (WTF I'm Still YOUNG LOL) like heavy drinking, heavy partying, can trigger a crisis and Ive definately had to cut it out of my life for the sake of my health. I still go out to club or to the bar and have a few rounds with my friends but its more like a once a month thing instead of how I used to be.

I've joined this site, because as I said before I want the chance to be able to connect with others with this disease and share stories.

Nana, hello my name is Angela and my daughter Amoree has sickle-cell SS; it just glad to see a young lady like yourself staying focus and living life, I often worry and wonder regarding my daughters future its not to recently I feel that she will be just fine, she is really taking care of herself and really looking forward to finshing school and learning to drive. If there was anything that you would have told you mother as you worry going up to get her to understand how you feel or felt regarding your illness what would it be. ( hope that this is making sense)

Hey Nana, it's so nice to meet you. My name is Tosin and I'm 29 years old. I never used to be a hard partier...I realized early on that alcohol leads to dehydration which leads to a crises. When I do drink, I make sure I have twice the amount of water I usually have, just to stay away from getting dehydrate I love your natural hair...I'm transitioning right now, and can't wait to have it looking as long as yours! You are so right, it's great to join a group of people that are going through the same experience you are going through. I"m sure you will love it here!
