These are just some random thoughts I had about hospital experiences.. please feel free to add your own..

1. IDK bout adults but when I go to the ER at Children's national, I usually get treated 1st (when I have a crisis), even before all my paper work is done.

2. How the Dr. ALWAYS ask you to rate your pain on a scale of 1-10? Like a number cant even describe the pain I'm feeling. And then they ask you to rate it based on a the smiley faces...
How do you describe your pain...?

hey, first of all when your under 18 yeah they treat you well. when I moved to the regular adult hemotology they treated me like trash. I almost died when I was under the the adult care. I would say to all the people under age with scd to try and talk to someone to make your transition smother. more on that later.
second. someone who does not have scd could never in a million billion years comprehend the feeling on that annoying smiley faced scale. For me its a ten alright TEN MILLION!!!!
thats just my opinion. :)
funny enough, even though i think the chart is dumb and am in agonizing pain, i never say 10, and always say 9, only if am crying, then i will say 10...maybe its a guy thing.lol
Actually they ASK ME (in the ER) what I usually get... half of the time my parents dont even understand whats goin on.
I usually get morphine, if the pills (T3, percocet) isnt working

wow really?
thats actually what I'm scared of... but I live in the DMV so I already started thinking about that... Im thinking I'll go to Geogetown or GWU Hospital's Hem. center, heard they are really good...

IDK y I actually try to dumb down the number on the scale , only by like 1 tho, because if I say my actually number, they go crazy !
the only time I say 10 is if I cant function of even think right because of the pain
When they ask me to rate my pain I just glare at my doctor and tell her if she sees tears streaming down my face and my noise dripping and me shaking then its more then enough of what a number can say. I always argue with my doctor we would debate on things and agree to disagree with things like if I ate something she would let me walk around. Back when I use to be in the hospital my doctor would nearly chain me to the bed to keep me still I have a hard time sitting in one place for a long time. Yes I'm weird but whatever if you don't like me being weird that's your problem not mine my weirdness is a gift, anyway I hate the pain scale I would always tell her to figure it out and if she couldn't then maybe someone who knew me could. My father is always with me when I am in the hospital my mom gave up a long time ago she is a person who is looking down on me but I'm still holding my head up and im gonna show her what Ebony S Ravenell can do!.
