We still Hope
What's the difference between the two? I have the former...
I've been working out and I'm not seeing many gains in the gym, I know this has something to do with my condition.

Why do you think that you're sickle cell would effect gains at the gym? I'm not asking to be a smart a**, I'm just asking because you said "I know this has something to do with my condition".
I have Sickle Cell (SS) and when I work out, I get results. I just don't understand why you think it's linked...
Could there be ANYTHING else effecting you? Also, when you say you're not seeing gains, do you mean muscle development, lung capacity, cardio training or something else?
Would you mind being a bit more specific?
Interesting.... I also have SCBT. In terms of exercise and making gain in the gym, I have not seen this as a problem when I am able to work out. However, intense exercise often results in a major crisis for me. I wonder if there is something else going on for you in addition to your primary diagnosis.
You probably already know this but thought I would add some simple differences about SCBT that were explained to be by my doctor. SCBT is generally thought as the milder form of SS (I would disagree with this as in my case all I ever do is spend time at the hospital trying to control pain). The SS portion of this disease is characterized by mis-shapen cells resulting in problems with these cell travelling through smaller vessels ( causing infarcts) and not being recognized by the white blood cells and killed off. The Thalessima portion of SCBT is characterized by the not making enough blood (decrease production of RBC/low blood volume). So, in some ways it is though that this combination is double trouble as O2 and haemoglobin levels are chronically low, and individuals have to come up with very creative ways to manages both the SS pain crisis and all potential complications of SS as well as the chronic anaemia and fatigue from the Thalassemia.
This was how it was explained to me over the years... thought I would add my 2 cents.
Take care,
R.
Thank you for the response, I assume we can live a longer and healthier life if we control our crisis.
