Hi, I just had my 3rd child on 4/22/12. Congrats on your new baby. You should not be any more nervous than any other new mother Im sure everything will be fine. Some tips I will give you are to make sure you stay hydrated. Have a good team of people handling your pregnancy i.e. hematology, obstitrican, pediatrician, ect. Make sure you have adaquate blood, and know your hemaglobin. After giving birth have support from your family and if that is not an option ask your friends for help you may feel weaker than someone without SSD. If you need additional help e-mail me at lifescoreinc@gmail.com will be glad to answer any questions. Good luck and God Bless
Hi Bri and Imani,
So I have not had the pleasure of being a mom as yet, the main reason is my husband and mother in law and maybe my mom too are all worried of the complications and the possibility of losing me... was that a major issue for you two before getting pregnant?
And Imani, how has three pregnancies been for you? were there many changes to your body in regards to the scd after the 1st pregnancy and and more after the others?
I am finally at the time in my life that I am mentally ready for children so I want to be properly informed on all bases prior to going down that path.
Thank you to you both for your responses and to any other scd moms out there that may be inclined to respond!
Hi Stephanie,
Yes it takes planning understand that you may not be able to work while or for a while after having a baby. Most hospitals offer genetic testing so that your husband can be tested for scd or trait along with other things. This is Very Important make sure you talk things over with your family so they know what type of support you will need during this difficult time.
Good Luck & God Bless
