Hi Angela, I have sickle cell and have since developed avascular necrosis in both hips and shoulders causing me to have surgery on my hip. It was very painful prior to the surgery but since then I have had a lot less pain in the hip area. When I am in a crisis it does still hurt a little but not nearly as much as it did prior to the procedure. It has been 3 years since my surgery. Overall it has been an asset. Please let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to speak with you. I keep all of my sickle family and their loved ones in my prayers.

My brother had hip replacement and shoulder replacement, since he has had it he has never been in pain anymore. He use to be in severe pain before he had the replacement. My mum also had a hip replacement about 3 years ago and she has been fine since then.
