Has Anyone Been Approved For Disability/SSI/Medicaid?

i was curious to see if anyone was able to receive anything government wise in regards to our condition.

i was actually approved for SSI which took 4 years, but...... (eye roll here), once at the office to get things in order i was told that i am not disabled, that i am able to actually work, therefore my case was closed.

its frustrating because they do not take into fact that sometimes i am out of work for days, even weeks. so where is my income at that point? (i assume bills pay for themselves)

also i dont have medical insurance, i was approved, yet i was unable to renew it.

do any of you share the same experience?

Get some help look for people that help with that case. My parents tried to get me SSI when I was young and I was denied, I then tried went I was about 19 and was denied again but then I found some help and I now get SSI but it took me 21 years to get it.

You're right. Funny thing is my hematologist and hospital social workers helped with everything and even sent me to "their doctor" for a physical of some sorts. But I have given up for now, I'm working and saving money. Amen! Thanks for the information!

The key to SSA benefits is that you have to show evidence of Sickle-cell disease with ADDITIONAL conditions linked to Sickle-cell.

See the SSA website link below, it describes SSA's evaluation criteria for approval/denial of claims. Sickle-cell is listed under "Hematological Disorders, section 7.05 Sickle-Cell"

http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/7.00-HemicandL...

Notice: you must have Sickle-cell (with) conditions listed on A., B. C. or D. You have to have your doctors provide evidence that you meet the criteria to get accepted.

Know the criteria and that will help you get approved....I always say "you gotta know their rules so you can play by them."

Right?

I do have SSI/Social Security. I applied as an adult and was approved but the proccess was long. They denied me the first time so I had to appeal but I won.  I did not get a lawyer I did it myself. Keep trying and you will get it.

I found it fairly easy to receive. However it probally helped that I started receiving it as a child. There was a time when I lost my SSI when I started working due to my income being higher than acceptable (Although I don't know WHO they expect can live off of $1000 a month) After I lost my job due to taking too many sick days I applied for disability and was approved after about 9 months of waiting. I had to see a Doctor a few times. Its a doctor of their choosing and I think it really depends on what Your doctor and theirs say. Keep trying and possibly look into getting a disability lawyer if you really need it.
