Change Your Medications If You Can. Acetaminophen Causes Major Liver Damage!!!!!!

Hey Guys,

Just a little news on what I have learned about meds, Pain meds especially. As patients we feel as though our doctors will tell us everything and have our best interest at heart. I learned through trial & error that it's not always true. For years I've taken Tylenol with Codeine, Hydrocodone, Percocet... You name it I've prob taken it. Point is these medications damage our liver. The last time I had a liver biopsy my iron level was 5,000, Talk about scary. Finally I sat my doctor down and began grilling him. I didn't want my life to just slip away over something that can be prevented. I started taking 30 mg immediate release & extended release morphine. Alot of people are allergic to morphine. It works wonders. The immediate release morphine is basically like the pain meds you get in the hospital through an IV. Morphine doesn't have acetaminophen in it. If you can please talk to your doctors about other options without the silent killer acetaminophen in it. We have to do our research and be on top of our health just as much as they are.

Hoping this blog helps.

I'll be blogging about alot of things that I come across about sickle cell and how to better manage it so we can live better more extended and productive lives!!!

Your so right. I had my gallbladder taken out. The last I had my liver checked it was 5,000. It's things you can take to detox the liver but w/ all the medications I'm on I don't want to chance mixing things or removing too much Iron cause it is essential to the body. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. WE'RE SOME OF THE STRONGEST PEOPLE!!!!!

yeah I knew that "tylenol" can damage our livers but also blood tranfusions due to iron overload.  This summer I had emergency surgery and the doctors had to take out 1/3 of my liver, gallbladder was leaking it came out too.  So make sure that your doctor checks your ferritin levels every three months.

No problem. Anything I can do to help, I will. I have now become intolerant to Morphine. Does this pain med cycle ever end...
