Hey All. This website has been a blessing to me.... I just joined about a month ago. I just wanted to know how other people was living with this disease. I have been having my personal battle w/scd, and not really letting people in, because I didn't want anyone to feel sorry for me.... I wanted to know did any get the H1N1 shot?

i got it and am fine, the media is just scaring people, but again i think it varies per individual, but i think it is worth getting it though

My daughter had the H1N1 vaccine about a week ago. So far she is doing ok. Hopefully nothing bad will happen.

I haven't gotten it yet because it's not available in my area...and I keep changing my mind whether or not to get it. I've gotten the regular flu shot like I do every year, but for some reason, it scares me that the H1N1 is a new vaccine, that they just started growing/creating in the last 14 months. There has been no time to test for long term effects or residual effects and I'm just so wary of that.

I've taken care of patients with H1N1, and even though they feel miserable for a few days, it's not the worst thing out there. It's like a regular flu, except that they have respiratory involvement as well (coughing) and it can be more highly contagious etc. None of my patients have died from it, and they have all gotten the anti-viral Tamiflu pill for treatment (which has been around for years). So my thinking is that: will the prevention be worse than getting the swine flu itself?

This is the dilemma I run into alot. I've seen that side of the spectrum and contrary to what the media is portraying, getting the swine flu is not that bad. The interesting fact is that the CDC acknowledges that this strain of the swine flu was the same one that existed in the 1960s in the US. it was called the Spanish flu then, and most people that had it then are somewhat resistant to contracting it now. Of course I wasn't born then, so I am at risk...but getting that vaccine unnerves me.

I will have to do more research on it before I make up my mind whether to get it or not. .....
