Yes you can use birth control as long as you have'nt had a stroke or a heart attack. You should talk to your ob/gyn about it. Only because they know what really works for you. I've had a stroke so my ob/gyn suggested that that i get get and iud placed.
i was advised to use the iud also..

I was advised against it. I was allowed to use Depo Provera injections every three months.

My doctor prescribed birth control pills to correct some anomaly in my period, but only for 6 months.  He said I shouldn't take them longer because of the sickle cell and me being a smoker.  Of course that was 18 years ago.  Maybe today's drugs are better.  I'd had an IUD for 2 years with no problems.

Yes we can but I would not encourage the use of the pill or shots. My reason for this is: 7 years ago when I was hospitalized I developed a blood clot in the right femoral vein. Doctors warned that the use of the pill or shot do contribute to blood clot problems. I was on the pill at this time. As a result, I was advised to discontinue the use of the pill. The only option I had left is the IUD. I've had the IUD since then and had no problems from it. With this said, if you are looking for a birth control, I would suggest you turn to the IUD. According to my doctor, it is the safest form.
I use the nuva ring and have been on it for 2 years and i have no problems with it. sometimes im alittle heavy but nothing the Dr said i should worry about.
I was told by a couple of doctors not 2 cauof the risk of strokes an clots!, an I'm a smoker as well an I've had 1 stroke already ...I would advice against the shots & pills :)!!!
