Is it common for people with sickle cell to have asthma. The doctors told me that the majority of people who have sickle cell also suffer with asthma. Just wanted to know if this statement is true or not. They told me when i was 10 that i had asthma but it NEVER bothered me then they said i have restrictive lung disease. I don't believe any of that nonsense because God performs miracles and i believe that i'm a walking miracle. So does anyone who has sickle cell on this site also have asthma???

No that is not true. Please!

I know people with asthma and sickle cell, but the two do not walk hand in hand. Asthma and sickle cell don't even have the same etiology...perhaps your doc is confusing asthma with acute chest syndrome.

Anyway...he's wrong.
I second that motion of Warrior hes like dead wrong I may have them both but that's cause of other reasons. No worries I took up kick boxing and now my asthma is not so bad.
well I was told that people w/ SCD have Asthma LIKE symptoms *shortness of breath, easily gettin tired, weezing etc) but not full blown asthma.

im now taking albuterol and pulmicort beause ive had pnemonia 4+ times and my pulmonary doc said shes trying recover my lungs from the scaring . (i was having extreme shortness of breath and chest pain) the treatment it working but i believe that God will heal my lungs completely and soon I will not need any pulmonary meds!!!!
Yes, I had asthma with SC and that was true, when ever I had a problem with sc the asthma would come. Get your lung stronger and pray for the strenght to endure what you have to do to get there
