I dont know a thing about Nicosan but i asked someone at the Sickle cell foundation in Nigeria who said he doesnt beleive in it.I have been researching dioscovite which was made by a US based Nigerian dr.I bought it when she was 4 months but havnt started her on it cos i would like to see how far she goes on her on.
There are no sickle cell clinics where we live so my daughter sees a peadiatrician when neccessary. He actually recommended dioscovite.I've been speaking with a sickle cell dr in another city and i plan to taking her so she can be seen by this dr.I still need one where i live though
What is done when she visits the clinic?Has she done some blood work yet?

Thanks dear.what extra shots did you give her? What's the weather like in Trinidad and Tobago. Its quite hot in Nigeria so we use the A.C most of the time.I'm not sure what temperature is right for her.She sweats most times even when i think its quite cold for her.Any advise as per temperature?

I decided to try it because though they haven't had any major complications due to the SCD I didn't want to wait then feel guilty I didn't try everything at my disposal. Their hematologist does not know, I'm considering informing them next week when they have their next appointment. We also give them l-glutamine supplements because that is supposed to help as well. There currently clinical trials on the effectiveness of glutamine, here's one
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00586209?term=glutamine&rank=9
I hope the glutamine is as effective as the nicosan appears to be because it will be a lot easier to obtain. Because it looks like it will be a long time before the nicosan is fda approved and available here in the US.

Thank God he's been well. He and his twin sister who also has SCD (their names are Ahmad and Ruqayyah) both have been well. Neither of them have had any pain crises but they both have had blood transfusions and hospital stays due to fever. My daughter doesn't take the nicosan though. It seems that she got a rash when she tried to take it so my wife and I decided to not have her take it for now. But my son hasn't had any negative reactions. They go to their hematologist in a few weeks and we will be able to see if his blood count is any different.
