Dear All,

I am fairly new to this site. I joined because i have a daughter with sickle cell. she is 10 months old and has had one crisis. It wasn't too severe, we were admitted for one night and she had some iv and antiobiotics given to her aswell as some pain killers.

I have been reading alot about the disease and i have come to realise that HYDRATION is the key (maybe not the key but certainly one of them). My problem is getting my little girl to drink the recommended amount calculated by her consultant.

Can anyone advice me on ways to get her drinking lots of fluids? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

10 months???? wow...God bless you on this journey.

Try to make drinking water fun; use fun cups, funny straws, add a treat (after the water is finished) Also, see my personal blog for more general information on living with SC disease.

hi my daughter who appears in my profile photo is 4 and has sickle cell, hydration is very important , introduce fluids that she enjoys and vary them to avoid boredom for the baby. breastfeeding, porridge fresh juice water and use colourful containers with cartoons and tits. introduce play while giving fluids and make it fun. you can give small frequent sips. dont worry you"l make it am doing the same. and if she has a carer make sure she understands this, but you have to be a hands on mam until baby is able to understand her condition. be blessed.

Give her vitamin water. Try new drinks that helps keeps Hydration. Whatever she enjoy drinking, buy plenty and offer it to her as much as possible. Hopefully that helps. I researched a product that help with that too and other areas as well. It helped some of my family members and myself. Research it. It's called Hemoxide Dietary Supplement.
