Hey. All I'm writing this as I'm in the ER waiting room. I'm 25 with SS , by the Grace of God have had very little complications from my sickle cell. 9 months ago I had a really b bad gallbladder attack but was told the stones weren't big enough for surgery. For the past month I've had pretty bad pain on the right side of my abdominal area closer to my back with constipation nausea vomiting diaries etc. I went to the ER 2 weeks ago and again they said I my stones weren't acing a problem today after throwing up for hours my right side is tender to the touch . Has anyone experienced this ?

My doctor told my parents to remove my gall bladder when I was 12 years old to prevent problems.

thanks for the replies... I guess it is all on my head because I wasn't sent home from the hospital and they said nothing was wrong again.

It's not a bad surgery at all....the first night a little discomfort, but that's it. After that you may be really really gas-e! But because of sickle cell our bodies react different....so you may go through a little crisis, due to anesthesia. I just had outpatient fibroid surgery and woke up in a crisis.

No. But after several strong bouts of right side abdominal pain (during my twenties), it was determined that I needed my gallbladder removed, after which I did. Amazing, what a difference it made once it was removed.

I had my gallbladder taken out when I was 17. The symptoms I experienced were not similar to what you described. Whenever I ate or drank anything acidic I would have INTENSE chest pain that lasted for about 20min then would go away. Once my doctor figured out what was causing the pain, I modified my diet until I had the surgery about a month or two later.

The recovery time for me was relatively short. There was pain, once the surgery was over, but when I went home the next day, it was pretty much activity as tolerated. I didn't follow the guideline of recommended foods to eat. When I returned home after my surgery I was hungry. The only thing in the fridge was spicy fried rice so I ate. I didn't have any problems and haven't since. That was 13 years ago.

Ooh dear. So sorry to hear that. I haven't had to experience that and neither have I seen any one go through the same. Am going to pray for you and I will talk to any one that can listen to me to pray for you. You will be fine in Jesus name.
