We still Hope
Hey guys
I hope all is well with you.
I write a blog and am asking some people who graduated from college and people who are currently in college advice on college life. So I figured I would ask you guys since you're like another type of family/ community.
Ive been hospital free for 2 years ^_^ but I had a mini crisis this week. I almost forgot how bad it was to be in pain. Its soo annoying just having to put your life on hold. And it got me down a little bit. So I wanted to ask you guys how did you cope when you were in college? How did having Sickle affect your college life?
what advice can you give to people like myself that are about to be away from parents for the first time and deal with SS?

I have been in college for 6 year due to my SCD it has pushed back my graduation 2 years already. Although I am going to get my AA and certificate school has been hard. I have failed classes as well as had to take Incompletes. I have to take a small load each semester and it gets smaller because I end up in the hospital so much and overload myself a stress out. I also work part time 20 hours a week and currently taking 6 units in school. I do it every day but it is hard and stressful on me since I’m in and out of the hospital all the time. But having family and friends that are supportive makes staying in school so much easier I have everything I need to succeed. Hope that helps keep your head up and you'll never fail.
Thanks so much for the feedback!
Lola I will take note and continue to learn my limits i sometimes forget and end up in pain. bess I already carry water with me everywhere. Thanks for the tips
Hi B,
Well done for keeping out of hospital for soo long!! When I went to university had a few crises mainly due to the stress of coursework, exams and not completly caring for myself. I would suggest, to make sure you eat well and drink lots of fluid as usual, its easy to forget when you have a busy lifestyle and not having your family around to support you, try to get enough rest between lectures and always have a bottle of water during lectures because they can be quite long and you may get dehydrated. Most of all enjoy yourself, but know your limits, uni is one the best times youll have in your life! All the best
