How has living with sickle cell made an impact on your life?
When growing up I was told that I would not live beyond the tender age of 40 and that I should not have children as I could die in labour. Having SS made me want to prove that I was going to live long just like everyone else and as a result of wanting to be more like my friends I was determined to not let SSD set me back. Through hard work and the support of my mum (RIP) and my brothers as they did not molly cuddle me and no excuse was good enough, I was going to be somebody and thank be to God I am now a social worker working with children with disabilities. I have had my right hip replaced but I do not let this prevent me from trying anything or achieving, I love SSD it is part of me so I have to love it otherwise I could not love myself.
