How has living with sickle cell made an impact on your life?
Hi, my name is Lynda, or Chioma as I am fondly called. I am fundraising for a stem cell transplant to cure sickle cell disease (SCD). Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder that causes its carrier to have painful vaso-oclusive crises. These crises come with excruciating pain that limit me in many ways. On average, I have to be admitted to the hospital about 7 times in a year. Having crises from this genetic disorder has also caused me to develop a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs), which is life threatening. I also run the risk of having a stroke; this can be fatal as well. I need to get this procedure done to help cure me of this disease that exposes me to numerous life threatening complications. The stem cell transplant can also help increase the quality of my life.
