Dear Parents: I understand that if you have a sickle cell disease kid you may not be too concerned about your sickle cell trait kid's symptoms.  However, you may have heard that some sickle cell trait healthy football players have died during practice/while playing a game. No study has been done before on why this might be. 

We are conducting a study on current or former sickle cell trait football players to determine if there are genetic differences between those who experience difficulty during excertion and those who do not. It does not matter at what level they played or if it was decades or months ago (DADS: I am referring to you!).
