I'm  having intense hip/buttock pain that I can't move my leg without painkillers, does anyone know anything about this type of sickle cell pain?

I have sickle cell beta thallesmia minor and my white cell count was high when I came out the hospital last week.

Sorry to hear that! Have you tried putting hot compress on the area as well as vapor rub. It helps when I am going through a crises. I wish you speedy recovery.
Hello Mike,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing this type of pain . I know what it's like cos I usually get pain in my hips that immobilises my legs as well . I just use loads of pain killers until it starts to get better. This can take anything between a few days to a week. How long have you been having this pain and what type of pain killers are you on ?
About a week and a half, I'm think a muscle spasm or maybe something wrong with my prostate. I had my gallbladder removed last year. It's every morning, I have to take pain killers to walk, I'm 40.

Infection with a sluggish immune system?

I was in the ER on December 22 with exactly what you described. It was a crisis which was treated with IV infusion and pain meds every 90 minutes. I was treated and released. I used to have this type of crisis when I was in elementary school. Lately, they have been acute chest syndrome. I hope that you receive the proper medical care and love and support from family and friends.

Hi, I haven't had many issues with my hip, but I volunteer in an SC Clinic and that type of hip pain can be really serious. Please see your doctor asap because it may be AVN which is like a fracture in the hip due to the blood clot.. if not looked after it can lead to you needing a hip replacement. So I suggest anyone with hip pains that seem really bad and long lasting please get it checked... replacing a hip is no small matter but it is something we with SCD have to deal with at times. Recovery from the surgery is a few months too so pls stay on top of hip issues and always tell your doc about it.

Could be a bad hip. I had to get hip replacements years back because the bone in my hip started dying from lack of blood due to sickle cell.
