My husband's sister is graduating from college. Only she lives in Georgia and we are in NJ. So that means we would have to take a trip out there. I feel uneasy because my newborn has sickle cell. My biggest fear is that she could go into crisis when we are in area that we are unfamiliar with. We can always look up hospital info prior to traveling but what if we aren't able to get to the hospital as fast as when we are in area we know? I have already told my husband I don't want to go and he is free to go by himself, but I feel some guilt. He always makes an effort to be a part of my family events and honestly I haven't been as involved with his.I know his sister and his mother are really looking forward to seeing our daughter too. I am not sure what is the right move here. I even asked one of her doctors what he thought and he said it would be fine, but I still feel uncomfortable.

Hey Ariane, hope you and your daughter are well. your discomfort with the situation is totally understandable as I even still get a bit scared when I am traveling for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned. However, I try not to let fear stop me from doing so, this can be easier said than done though, but most times it works out and I would've regretted not going. As long as u take all necessary precautions, which it seems like u do, things turn out ok....did u end up going?

The graduation didn't happen yet, but I did decide if my husband really wants us there we will go.
Adriana, did you ever go to the graduation?
Traveling with sickle cell is always tricky. You have to figure out what works for you and your family. One suggestion I have, that I do & tell my daughter to do, is get a doctor's letter from her Hemotoglist and primary care physician. On doctors letterhead, the letter should explain what type of sickle cell she has, medicine that she takes & treatment protocols for treatment in case of emergency. This way no matter where you go, the doctors orders are with you.
God bless you and your family!

No I did not turns out she will be graduating December this year rather than the summer. Thank you for the suggestion.
No problem.
