Enough about me, let's talk about the successful people I have found as members on the site! Giving advice, sharing with one… Continue

Feeling Like Crap!

My Grandma used to say I got tired blood....I use to always think that if I get to bed by maybe 9 or 10 I would be ok in the morning, that theory has long be unapproved. I take one a day and folic acid for some type of energy and yet I'm still unbelievably tired most of the times. I don't drink caffeine becuz I suffer from migraine so that is out of the question. Do anyone else have this problem and do anyone have… Continue

How to assist a friend with Sickle Cell

Hi, I have a female friend with Sickle Cell. She goes in and out of the hospital several times per year. She has a good support system. She has a college education, a full time job and she is a single parent of 2 children. The problem is that every time she goes into the hospital she gets behind on her bills because "she makes too much $ for any type of public assistance." Does any one know of temporary assistance for cases like this? She is wants to be able to work and take care of her… Continue

Blood Count

I was in the hematologist/oncologist office the other day and over heard the nurse telling a cancer patient about her blood count and it was much higher than mine. I understand cancer is a big deal as a matter of fact I have an aunt that's dying of cancer as we speak but if a cancer patient's count is much higher than mine than when are they going to start to believe that SCD is a deadly disease and deserves as much research as cancer. I hope I haven't offended anyone. It just gets frustrating… Continue

Shimmy Shimmy Shimmy

So one thing that is important to me, is belly dance. I've been doing it for about 2.5 years now. I'm not a professional dancer, nor am I in any troupe, but I take classes, and dance at the Hafla's and various student shows. Its just a fun hobby. Its also one that is responsible for a giant boost of self confidence in myself. Before I started dancing, It could be said that I really didn't feel to good about myself. I was a bit insecure about my weight, even though I really wasn't that big, at… Continue
