Good day SC family, I just wanted to ask a question pertaining to the Sickle Cell Trait. My question is: Does anyone with the trait or anyone who knows someone with the trait that has experienced symptoms of the disease? I have a son and a daughter both with the trait. My daughter never complains about sickness but my son complains about sickness a lot. He has chronic headaches and back pains that he can not explain along with pains in his legs from time to time. I have taken him to the doctor many times for these symptoms but nothing is ever done about it. They have ran all kinds of test but nothing is ever found. They only say that he has growing pains. If anyone can give me any information on people they know that suffer from disease symptoms but they only have the trait please let me know.

Well Kavonda, a Doctor did diagnose me about when I was 4 yrs old and that's when I was having a crisis. It happened when I came from the beach around Christmas time and then I started to feel the pains in my joints. Well to deal with the pains my parents used heat on the joints and give me pain meds and most importantly i had to drink lots of water. Water equals oxygen. He needs to eat well. I am big on exercise but used to overwork myself; then I would end up in crisis. Also when I go out like to the beach r a pool I need to walk with my meds just in case. Hope this helps.

My son has the trait, he has nose bleeds, headaches, some aches in joints but nothing like the real deal.

Good morning Jamilla, I was excited to read your comment. When did you find out you were experiencing crises? Did a doctor diagnose you with this? How did you feel and deal with the pain once you discovered that you were having crises? I know that I may be asking you a lot of questions but I need information to help my son. I have the disease and have suffered all my life from the crises and the doctors seem to be deal with me but I have a hard time getting them to listen to my son. Thank you for your comment, now I know that I am not just imagining his pain.

Hi Kavonda, I have the trait only but I still suffer from the pains. When I was young i ended up in crisis I would say 3-5 times a year. It was awful.
