Not too long ago when i moved to Ireland (2000), a lot of healthcare providers had not heard about the disease as there were not many people with African ancestry living here then. Fast forward to 2009, every child of African ancestry is tested and given follow up care if required. There is also counselling, supports, education in place for the parents.
